The World Outreach Team at First Christian Church of Stow has a long and dedicated history.  Over these many years, many members of our church have felt “called” to the mission of helping people.  Some avenues of help have included, but are not limited to:

  • Monetary Donations to worthy organizations that help with clothing, shelter and/or food
    • Good Neighbors of Cuyahoga Falls
    • Salvation Army of Akron
    • Haven of Rest of Akron
    • Ronald McDonald House of Akron
    • Family Promise (Inter Faith Hospitality Network of Akron)
    • Kent Battered Women’s Shelter
    • The Cleveland Christian Home for Children
    • Church World Service (CROP Walk & Health Kits)
  • Monetary Donations to organizations that promote education and mission work
    • First Christian Church Timothy’s - for books   (students entering into ministry)
    • Mission trips (including but not limited to: New Orleans, Texas, West Virginia, Pennsylvania)
    • Camp Christian (Disciples of Christ Camp)
    • The USO

o       Providing new school supplies, new clothing and personal items

o       Good Neighbors

o       The Cleveland Christian Home for Children

o       Church World Service (Health, Baby and School Kits) - for disaster distribution

o       Items mailed to persons serving (from our church) in the armed forces

                 

o       Supporting Family Promise of Summit County -  we provide assistance to homeless families with children.  We assist by providing / serving food and driving the center van, as well as, evening and over night volunteers to assist families while they are staying at Firestone Park Christian Church.

  • Helping local families with food at Christmas and Easter.
  • Providing tokens of affection and remembrance to our homebound church members.
  • Holding a once a month free dinner for the community.
  • Planting a church garden to help local groups extend their level of food given out:
    • Kent Social Services
    • Good Neighbors
    • Kent Freedom House
  • Maintaining a small pantry for those who come to our church for help.
  • Donating clothing and household goods to Good Neighbors, The Cleveland Christian Home for Children and Inter Faith Hospitality Network.
  • Collecting Panera’s day old baked goods once a week and delivering them to Haven of Rest or using them for our own Food Program.
  • Holding fund raisers to increase the amount that we are able to give – above and beyond our yearly budget:
    • Quilt raffles
    • Basket Raffles
    • Dinners / Luncheons
