World Outreach Events 

The World Outreach Team at First Christian Church of Stow has a long and dedicated history

Meeting Times:

 

The World Outreach Committee meets the third (3rd) Thursday of each month.   Meetings start at 6:30 and we meet in the Library.  We meet every month unless noted:

 

            There will be no meetings the months of June, July and December

           

 

EVENTS AND SPECIAL OFFERINGS:

 

            LOAVES AND FISHES FREE COMMUNITY DINNER:

 

This dinner is open to anyone who would like a free meal.  There is a donation can available, but is completely voluntary for anyone who wishes to help defray the cost of the meal.

 

Each meal is served on the third Sunday of each month (from 4pm until 6pm), unless unforeseen circumstances dictate otherwise.  In that case, a red banner will be place over the yellow banner at the corner of Kent Road and Darrow Road (attached to the white picket fence) with a cancellation notice.

 

            GOOD NEIGHBORS DONATIONS:

 

Due to the relocation of Good Neighbors (and lack of space in the new location), only food or cash can be donated.  Food should be bagged and labeled “Good Neighbors” before placing in the FCC Food Pantry Barrel.  The barrel is located in the Gathering Area just outside the church sanctuary.

 

SPECIAL OFFERING:

 

Week of Compassion – a Disciples Special Offering.  The offering will be collected February 20, 2011 – 27, 2011.

 

CHURCH LUNCHEON:

 

            The World Outreach Team is sponsoring this church luncheon to benefit The Cleveland Christian Home for Children’s “Partnership Challenge”.  It will be held on April 10, 2011.

 

WALK FOR THE KIDS:

 

This walk is sponsored by The Cleveland Christian Home for Children.  To be held on April 23, 2011 at the Cleveland Zoo.

 

EASTER INGATHERING:

 

The First Christian Church of Stow congregation will donate food to make up gift baskets.

 

                        The Easter Ingathering will be:  April 17, 2011

 

            COLLECTION FOR SERVICE PERSONNEL:

 

The World Outreach Team will be collecting items to ship to our church service personnel and fellow soldiers.

           

We will be collecting personal care items, magazines, snack foods, individual drink mixes, powdered laundry soap, “Beanie Babies” or similar small stuff animals (to give to the children).  Collection to be completed by Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011

 

SPECIAL OFFERING:

 

Camp Christian – is the Ohio Disciples Church Camp.  The offering will be collected June 5, 2011 – 12, 2011.

 

SPECIAL OFFERING:

 

Family Promise – the offering will be collected on August 8, 2011 – August 20, 2011.

 

Family Promise provides families with children temporary housing (the whole family stays together), while permanent housing and jobs (if necessary) can be obtained.  This program operates through volunteer churches and synagogues.

 

CWS CROP WALK:

 

                        We will be walking to raise money to help provide clean, sustainable water in local third world communities … http://www.churchworldservice.org/site/PageServer

 

This walk is sponsored by Church World Service.  The planning meeting will be held on August 18, 2011 – 7:00pm

 

                                    - This year the 2011 CROP Walk will be held in the Cuyahoga Valley Reservation.

                                    - Registration will be from 12:30 until 2:00 at Brecksville Station.

 

- Please note on each walker’s envelope which location you are for which you are walking (First Christian of Stow is walking for Stow)

- Also note that the local donation will go to:  Good Neighbors of Cuyahoga Falls

- All minors must have a parent or guardians signature on their walking form in order to participate in the walk

- Walkers are sponsored by just by walking – not by the mile

 

- Please have your entire group assemble at the starting point.  One person will register the entire group, as well as, turning in the group’s walk envelopes

(There are to be 15 churches / groups walking at this event)

- After walking 1 ¼ miles south, there will be a water break station.  Return to the registration table to complete the walk.

                                                (If you plan to walk further, please be sure that you plan ahead for a ride home)

 

-          Church World Service Goals:

1.      At least 10 walkers per church

2.      Having each walker sponsor themselves -$20.11 (for year 2011), if possible

 

            SPECIAL OFERING:

 

                     Christmas Offering will benefit Ohio Ministries.  The offering will be collected on December 11, 2011 – 18, 2011.

 

CHRISTMAS INGATHERING:

 

The First Christian Church of Stow and local business will donate food to make up the gift baskets.

 

                        Christmas Ingathering will be:  December 18, 2011
